Former Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo called on former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe in Singapore on Wednesday, as Wickremesinghe continues to recuperate from recent surgery.

Yeo shared a photograph of the meeting on social media with the caption, “Calling on former Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe.” Newswire, which first reported the visit, did not provide further details on what the two discussed or how long Yeo stayed.

Yeo served as Singapore’s foreign minister from 2004 to 2011 under the People’s Action Party government and has retained long-standing ties with Sri Lanka’s political establishment. He visited Colombo several times during and after his time in office and remains an active commentator on South and Southeast Asian geopolitics.

Wickremesinghe travelled to Singapore for surgery and recovery late last month and has remained out of public life as the NPP government navigates a difficult period. Parliament is scheduled to debate a no-confidence motion against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody on April 10 — the first such motion under the new administration — while the IMF’s fifth and sixth review mission is expected to conclude the next day.

Neither Wickremesinghe’s office nor the United National Party issued a statement on the visit.
