Sri Lankan sprinter Jithma Wijethunga secured a silver medal in the women’s 400 metres at the New Taipei City Athletics Open 2026 on Sunday, clocking 53.16 seconds at the meet in Taiwan.

The New Taipei City Athletics Open is one of Taiwan’s larger regional invitational track meets and is currently under way at the country’s New Taipei City. NewsFirst, reporting the result on Sunday evening Sri Lanka time, did not name the gold medallist or the third-placed athlete.

Wijethunga’s silver continues a productive 2026 international season for Sri Lankan track and field, which has included Ransini Perera’s Asian U20 200m gold in late May and javelin thrower Lekamge’s seasonal best at Diyagama in mid-May.
