Nineteen people sustained minor injuries on Monday (May 25) when a bus carrying apparel factory workers veered off the road and overturned into a paddy field along the Diyagama Road in Kahathuduwa, police said.

Police Headquarters said the accident occurred when the bus attempted to make way for another vehicle travelling on the road. Seventeen of the injured were admitted to the Homagama Hospital, while one person was taken to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital and another to the Wethara Hospital.

Police said none of the injured passengers were in critical condition.

The crash adds to a steady run of road-safety incidents in recent weeks, including an 11-injured bus collision in Naula and a multi-vehicle collision in Eheliyagoda that left ten injured.
