The Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered Attorney-at-Law Thamara Kumari Abeyratne — a suspect in the “Ganemulla Sanjeewa” murder case who has been held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act — remanded until May 7.
Abeyratne was produced before the court by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following the expiration of her earlier detention order, Ada Derana reported.
The lawyer was first arrested for allegedly aiding the murder of the underworld figure known as “Ganemulla Sanjeewa.” The CID has previously disclosed that she is being investigated in connection with eight bank accounts under suspicion in the case. She has been detained under the PTA since the initial arrest.
The Ganemulla Sanjeewa case has produced multiple parallel investigations. Earlier this month, an associate of the slain underworld figure was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport on his return from India following a CID-led repatriation request. Monday’s court order keeps the lawyer in remand custody for a further ten days while the CID continues its inquiries into the bank accounts.
