Two private buses collided head-on near the 170 Mile Post in Unathuwewa, Lunugamwehera on Thursday evening, Ada Derana reported.

A private bus travelling from Colombo to Ampara collided head-on with another private bus operating from Badulla to Matara, according to the broadcaster’s correspondent on the scene.

Initial reporting did not provide casualty figures or details of injuries. Police investigations and emergency response are ongoing.

The incident adds to a sustained run of inter-regional bus accidents that have included the Galle Dadalla bus crash earlier this month and the SLTB collision at Domabagahawela in May, both raising fresh questions about driver fatigue and vehicle inspection regimes on long-haul private bus routes.
