Kaduwela Police arrested 22 youths on Saturday for staging a reckless motorcycle stunt show on Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha, near a private university in Malabe.

The arrests were made after officers received information that a group was conducting a motorcycle display in a way that obstructed and inconvenienced road users. Initial investigations revealed that the group had coordinated the event through a WhatsApp group.

Police recovered several motorcycles used in the show, including two unregistered vehicles. None of the suspects are residents of the Kaduwela area, investigators said. All 22 were released on police bail and ordered to appear before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court on May 5.

The Malabe arrests come amid a wider police push against unregistered and modified motorcycles, including a recent Piliyandala raid that recovered 49 unregistrable bikes valued at Rs. 20 million.
