The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has temporarily lifted the overseas travel ban imposed on former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who is out on bail in a corruption-related case.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order on Tuesday after the defence requested that the travel restriction be relaxed to allow the former minister to seek medical treatment abroad. The ban has been lifted until June 2.
Senaratne, a senior figure across successive governments who held the fisheries and aquatic resources portfolio, remains subject to ongoing court proceedings and the case continues alongside the relaxed travel condition.
The order mirrors a similar travel-ban relaxation granted the same day by the same Chief Magistrate, who oversees several high-profile matters moving through the Colombo courts. Both relaxations are tied to a June 2 return to the bench.
