The Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development Ministry is awarding the largest lottery prize in Sri Lanka’s history today β€” a Rs. 629.8 million jackpot under the Jayamalle Kapruka Lottery.

The winning number was drawn on February 19, and the official cheque presentation is taking place at the Development Lottery Board auditorium under the patronage of Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe. The payout amounts to approximately USD 2 million at current exchange rates.

Officials described the record-breaking prize as a milestone reflecting increased participation in lottery schemes and a gradual expansion in prize pools in recent years. The Development Lottery Board, which operates under the ministry, manages several national lottery brands.

The payout comes at a time when household budgets are under pressure from rising gas prices, higher fuel costs, and an electricity tariff hike request β€” making the windfall all the more significant for the winning ticket holder.
