Two motorcyclists died in separate road accidents in the Colombo and Kalutara districts on Tuesday morning, police said.

In the first incident, a 21-year-old resident of Peliyagoda was riding from the Thotalaga junction towards Peliyagoda when his motorcycle collided with a prime mover near the Lucas Road junction in Grandpass. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Colombo National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the prime mover was arrested and Grandpass Police are investigating.

In the second incident, a 43-year-old resident of Payagala died in hospital after his motorcycle collided with a bicycle near the Pahala Angoda junction on the Payagala–Malegoda–Dodangoda road. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Dodangoda. The cyclist and the motorcyclist were taken to Nagoda Hospital, where the motorcyclist later succumbed to his injuries. Payagala Police are investigating.

The deaths follow a cluster of fatal weekend road accidents in the western Colombo–Kalutara belt this month, including a hit-and-run in Hanwella that killed two women on a Saturday evening and a Horana SUV strike that killed a pedestrian the same weekend.
