Sampath Bank has opened its Colombo Port City branch at Building 1 of the Business Centre, Commercial Hub, marking the first-ever banking transaction conducted within the development, EconomyNext reported.
The branch offers self-service banking facilities including Cash Recycler Machine services for withdrawals, deposits and day-to-day banking. As an Authorised Persons Licensed Institution under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, Sampath Bank said it provides local and foreign currency banking, inward investment accounts, trade finance, treasury services, international remittances and digital banking tailored to residents, businesses and investors operating within the SEZ.
“The new branch further strengthens Sampath Bank’s role in delivering the financial infrastructure and expertise needed to support investment, enterprise, and the continued growth of Port City Colombo as a leading business and financial destination in South Asia,” the bank said.
The branch follows Sampath Bank’s announcement on June 2 that it would open inside the Special Economic Zone, becoming the second commercial bank to do so after Commercial Bank of Ceylon’s branch announcement on May 22. Sampath had previously installed a Cash Recycler Machine at The Mall at Port City Colombo, which served as the zone’s first banking access point for withdrawals and deposits.
The opening is the latest commercial milestone for the SEZ following the granting of Strategic Business Status to six firms in May and the disclosure of $900 million in FDI commitments across five months.
