Sri Lanka’s rupee closed marginally weaker at 336.30/40 to the US dollar in spot trading on Wednesday (July 15), easing from 336.00/20 in the previous session, dealers told EconomyNext. Government bond yields ended slightly higher.

Banks quoted the telegraphic transfer rate at 331.80 rupees buying and 340.80 selling. The euro was quoted at 376.98/390.90 and the pound sterling at 443.75/457.80.

In the secondary bond market, a security maturing on 15 September 2027 closed at 10.40/50 percent, firmer than the prior session.

The currency has drifted gradually lower in recent sessions, having traded around 335.70/336.00 on July 13. The rupee remains sensitive to external pressures, including import demand for fuel and vehicles and elevated global oil prices, given Sri Lanka’s heavy reliance on imported energy.
