The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has suspended water supply for 19 hours across large parts of the Gampaha District to carry out emergency maintenance at the Karasnagala Water Treatment Plant in Attanagalla.
The interruption began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, 16 June, and is scheduled to last until 3 a.m. on Wednesday, 17 June.
Affected areas span the Gampaha Municipal Council, Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha and Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha jurisdictions. Within those areas, supply has been cut to Weliweriya, Balummahara, Rathupaswala, Minuwangoda, Asgiriya, Udugampola and Opatha.
The shutdown also covers the Ranpokunugama Housing Scheme, Urapola, Attanagalla, Bataleeya, Watupitiwala, Nittambuwa, Veyangoda, Kalagedihena, Thihariya, Naiwala and surrounding villages, the NWSDB said. Within the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha, Maharagama, Sivuralumulla, Kirikitta, Kinigama and Etikehelgalla will also be affected.
The Board attributed the disruption to maintenance activity at the Attanagalla Karasnagala Water Treatment Plant. It urged residents in affected areas to store water in advance and use available supplies sparingly until full pressure is restored on Wednesday morning.
The latest Karasnagala-related shutdown follows a series of recent water cuts in the Gampaha basin. A 12-hour water cut affected Mahara and parts of Gampaha on 11 June, and a shorter Mahara-Gampaha cut was carried out on 27 May.
