The Department of Meteorology issued an Amber advisory on Thursday (11) for strong winds across the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern and North-Central provinces and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, valid until 6.00 p.m. on Friday (12).

According to the department, strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times in the advisory area due to the active south-west monsoonal condition. Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times elsewhere on the island.

The public has been advised to remain attentive to further advisories issued by the department. The latest Amber alert follows similar Amber advisories on June 8 and June 10 as the south-west monsoon remains active.
