The Department of Meteorology has issued a fresh Amber advisory for strong winds of 40–50 kmph over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts due to the active south-west monsoonal condition, Ada Derana reported.
Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can also be expected at times elsewhere on the island. The advisory, issued on Wednesday (10), will remain in effect until 3.30 p.m. on Thursday (11).
The Met Department has urged the public to remain attentive to future advisories on monsoon-driven wind conditions.
The new alert continues a rolling run of monsoon-driven advisories that have repeatedly covered the same provinces and coastal districts. The June 8 advisory and the extended advisory through Friday afternoon issued on June 5 cited identical wind-speed ranges and geographic coverage.
