A 26-year-old Madiwela resident has been arrested with more than four kilograms of narcotics, the Western Province South Crime Division said on Friday.
Officers seized 1 kilogram and 58 grams of heroin and 3 kilograms and 34 grams of crystal methamphetamine — known locally as “Ice” — from the suspect’s possession during a raid carried out on a tip-off.
The Crime Division said further investigations are underway.
The seizure adds to the running tally of drug enforcement actions across Western Province in May, which include the Bandaragama drug packaging raid earlier this week and the Angoda Rs.50M Ice and heroin haul on Thursday. Both operations form part of the NPP government’s “Rata Ekata” anti-narcotics drive that has logged more than 156,000 arrests since October 2025.
Police have also intensified residential and commercial surveillance, with 540 suspects detained in islandwide raids on Thursday, including 817 narcotics arrests in 796 search operations.
