The results of the 2025 General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination have been released online, the Department of Examinations announced on Friday night.

Candidates can retrieve their results by entering their index numbers on the Department of Examinations’ official website at www.doenets.lk.

A total of 451,463 candidates sat for the 2025 O/L Examination — 382,249 school candidates and 69,214 private candidates — at 3,547 centres across the island from February 17 to February 26 this year, NewsFirst reported, citing Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage. The Department said applications for re-scrutiny of results can be submitted online from June 25 to July 8 via onlineexams.gov.lk/eic.

The release comes after a series of postponements. Deputy Education Minister Madura Withanage had told reporters in early June that results were expected to land by mid-June, with June 15 named as a target window. The Department then confirmed on June 14 that the release would slip outside that window, with Commissioner General W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara saying issuance would take “approximately two more weeks” while marking and verification work was completed.

The 2025 cohort is one of the largest sitting groups in recent years. Results determine eligibility for advanced level (A/L) streams and technical and vocational tracks, and re-scrutiny outcomes are typically issued in the weeks after the application window closes.

Update — June 20: 11,790 students score 9 As, 225,748 qualify for A/Ls

Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage said at a Department of Examinations media briefing on Saturday that 11,790 candidates obtained ‘A’ passes in all subjects in the 2025 O/L Examination, Ada Derana reported. A total of 225,748 students — 73.16% of those who sat — qualified for the G.C.E. Advanced Level, while 7,419 candidates (2.36%) failed every subject.

Subject performance improved year-on-year, the Commissioner General said. The pass rate in Science rose to 70.1% from 69.07%, and Mathematics climbed to 72.03% from 71.06%. The online re-scrutiny window remains June 25 to July 8, 2026. Liyanage also confirmed at the briefing that the 2026 O/L Examination is scheduled for December 8–17, 2026, with applications opening in the first week of July.
