Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne said on Wednesday that the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination results will be released by June 15, narrowing the window from the Department of Examinations’ earlier “mid-June” framing, NewsFirst reported.
Seneviratne confirmed that preparations for the release are underway and officials are finalising documentation. The 2025 O/Level examination was conducted from February 17 to February 26, drawing 451,463 candidates nationwide, the largest single sitting in the post-restructuring exam calendar.
The Deputy Minister also pushed back on calls from “certain groups” to postpone the upcoming Advanced Level paper, firmly stating that the exam will proceed as scheduled. He said no necessity exists to alter the planned timetable. The Department of Examinations released the 2026 GCE A/L timetable on June 8, with the paper running from August 10 to September 5 over 22 days in morning and afternoon sessions.
Today’s June 15 commitment supersedes Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage’s May 25 statement that results were due “by mid-June”, which had not specified a date in response to social-media speculation. Of the 451,463 candidates, 382,249 were school candidates and 69,214 were private candidates. The 2025 A/L cohort that preceded this batch saw 62.64% qualify for university entrance from 281,810 candidates, setting the benchmark against which the 2026 admissions cycle will be measured.
