Parliament will convene from June 9 to 12, the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided at a meeting Monday chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, Newswire reported.
On Tuesday (June 9), orders under the Stamp Duty, Ports and Airports Development Levy, Excise and Value Added Tax acts are scheduled to be debated and approved between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm. A resolution under the Public Security Ordinance — the legal instrument the government has used to roll over the Cyclone Ditwah-era state of emergency — is then scheduled from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
Wednesday (June 10) brings the Second Reading Debate on the Telecommunication Levy (Amendment) Bill and the Finance (Amendment) Bill, followed by a resolution under the Essential Public Services Act, the separate gazette covering critical services. The 10–10.30 am slot is reserved for questions to the Prime Minister.
Thursday (June 11) features the Second Reading Debate on the Mediation (Civil and Commercial Disputes) Bill and an order under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, followed by an opposition adjournment debate on the country’s current situation.
Friday (June 12) covers rules under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act and a Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 20 billion, ahead of the continuation of the government adjournment debate on the Central Bank’s 2025 Annual Economic Review, which commenced May 20.
Parliament also approved a separate awareness programme for MPs on current fiscal policy to be held inside the parliamentary complex on June 10. Requested by Labour Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando, it will feature the CBSL Governor and other senior central bank officials.
