Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has hosted the Tekanda Foundation’s girls’ cricket team at his home in England during the squad’s tour, praising the players’ “talent” and recent “winning streak,” Newswire reported.
In a social media post sharing pictures of the visit, Sangakkara called the touring side “talented cricketers on a winning streak” and acknowledged the support extended by Aushi Moonesinghe, Eroshan and London restaurant Kolamba London in backing the team’s journey.
The Tekanda Foundation is a Sri Lanka-based charity established in 2023 that focuses on empowering rural communities, with cricket development for girls forming part of its outreach. The England tour and the Sangakkara hosting are the most visible international engagement the foundation has had since launch.
Sangakkara, the chair of the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee and a former ICC global ambassador, has used his England base to host visiting Sri Lankan cricket groups before. The latest hosting sits alongside the senior national women’s team’s pre-T20 World Cup warm-up campaign in Europe and the Under-19 women’s tour of India — three concurrent women’s cricket pathways playing internationally this month.
