US President Donald Trump has strongly defended Israel in a Truth Social post published late Friday, calling the country a “great ally” and lashing out at unnamed nations he accused of having “shown their true colors” during the Iran war.

“Whether people like Israel or not, they have proven to be a GREAT Ally of the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “They are Courageous, Bold, Loyal, and Smart and, unlike others that have shown their true colors in a moment of conflict and stress, Israel fights hard, and knows how to WIN!”

The post, carried by Ada Derana and relayed on BBC’s live coverage of the conflict, came shortly after former Vice President Kamala Harris publicly accused Netanyahu of “pulling” Trump into the war during a public appearance. Trump did not address Harris directly.

The “true colors” language appears aimed at Western allies that declined to back Washington’s military enforcement of the Hormuz blockade. NATO, the United Kingdom and France publicly refused to contribute vessels to the US-led cordon, and Saudi Arabia subsequently lobbied Washington to ease enforcement. India this week summoned Iran’s ambassador after gunfire against merchant tankers — a rare Asian diplomatic rebuke of Tehran but not a signal of US alignment.

Iranian talks with US negotiators on ending the war have made progress but the two sides remain “far” from a deal, BBC reported, with Trump separately warning the US would not be “blackmailed” over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran closed the strait’s safe corridor on Saturday after an earlier declaration that it had reopened.

Sri Lanka has maintained a neutral stance throughout the conflict, with Colombo routing diplomatic engagements through multilateral forums rather than aligning with either side.
