The Department of Examinations has released the timetable for the 2026 General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) examination, which will be held from August 10 to September 5, Newswire reported.

The examination will run over 22 days, with subjects scheduled in both morning and afternoon sessions. Candidates can download the full timetable from the Department of Examinations website at doenets.lk.

The 2026 cohort will sit the paper just months after the 2025 A/L cohort received their results, with 62.64% qualifying for university entrance from a base of 281,810 candidates. The next admission cycle will run through the University Grants Commission cut-off process later in 2027.

The release of the A/L timetable coincided with the Department’s announcement that the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will be held on August 9, the day before the A/L begins, and follows the still-pending release of the 2025 O/Level results, which the Department has said are due by mid-June.
